We are neighbors in Panamá Oeste who help animals in need — rescue, foster homes, adoptions, transport, veterinary care and food. We are not an organization. We are people, and we pay for our own work.
Somos vecinos en Panamá Oeste que ayudamos a animales necesitados — rescate, hogares temporales, adopciones, transporte, atención veterinaria y alimento. No somos una organización. Somos personas, y pagamos nuestro trabajo de nuestro propio bolsillo.

Who we are
Quiénes somos
PANA PAWS is a community-based volunteer network in Panamá Oeste. No office, no shelter, no staff. Just people who live here and answer the phone when an animal is in trouble.
PANA PAWS es una red comunitaria de voluntarios en Panamá Oeste. Sin oficina, sin albergue, sin empleados. Solo personas que viven aquí y contestan el teléfono cuando un animal está en problemas.
One of us spots a dog on the roadside. Someone else has a free crate. A third person can drive. A fourth knows a vet who opens on a Sunday. That is the whole method. Simple — and it grows stronger with every neighbor who joins.
Uno de nosotros ve a un perro al borde de la carretera. Otro tiene un transportador libre. Un tercero puede manejar. Un cuarto conoce a un veterinario que abre un domingo. Ese es todo el método. Sencillo — y se hace más fuerte con cada vecino que se suma.
We help with emergencies, foster homes, adoptions, transport, arranging veterinary care, food and supplies, and connecting people who can help with animals who need it.
Ayudamos con emergencias, hogares temporales, adopciones, transporte, gestionar atención veterinaria, alimento e insumos, y conectar a quienes pueden ayudar con los animales que lo necesitan.
Every animal counts

Dogs are the majority of what we see, simply because there are so many on the streets here. But an animal in trouble is an animal in trouble.
Los perros son la mayoría de lo que vemos, simplemente porque hay muchísimos en la calle. Pero un animal en apuros es un animal en apuros.
We help cats, horses, donkeys, goats, chickens, rabbits and birds — any domestic or working animal. If you are not sure whether your case fits, write to us and ask. The answer is usually yes.
Ayudamos a gatos, caballos, burros, cabras, gallinas, conejos y aves — cualquier animal doméstico o de trabajo. Si no sabes si tu caso encaja, escríbenos y pregúntanos. La respuesta casi siempre es sí.
One exception: we do not handle wildlife. Wild animals need trained specialists and the proper authorities — we will always point you to them instead of guessing.
Una excepción: no atendemos fauna silvestre. Los animales salvajes necesitan especialistas capacitados y las autoridades correspondientes — siempre te remitiremos a ellos en lugar de improvisar.
This is where it all happens: emergencies, foster requests, adoptions, transport and quick questions. If you want to help or need help, this is the fastest way to reach the whole network.

What we do

Everything here is done by volunteers, in their own time, with their own cars and their own money.

An injured or abandoned animal is found. We coordinate who goes, who drives and who pays — as fast as we can, often within the hour.

A safe place to recover. Two weeks in someone’s spare room is often the difference between life and death.

We match animals with families who are ready, and we stay reachable long after they have gone home.

To the vet, to a foster home, to a new family, sometimes across the country.

We organize treatment, vaccinations and sterilizations — and we pay the bills ourselves.

Feeding street animals, and getting food, medication and equipment to the people and rescues who need it.

How it actually works
Cómo funciona de verdad
There is no office to rent, no salary to pay, no board to fly anywhere. Every bag of food that reaches us reaches an animal, usually within days. That is not a promise we made up — it is simply what happens when nobody is being paid.
No hay oficina que alquilar, ni sueldos que pagar, ni junta directiva que enviar a ningún lado. Cada saco de comida que nos llega termina en un animal, normalmente en pocos días. No es una promesa inventada — es sencillamente lo que ocurre cuando nadie cobra.
The flip side is that we are small and we have limits. We say no when we cannot do something properly, and we would rather tell you that honestly than take on a case we cannot finish.
La otra cara es que somos pequeños y tenemos límites. Decimos que no cuando no podemos hacer algo bien, y preferimos decirlo con honestidad que aceptar un caso que no podríamos terminar.

We started PANA PAWS because of something we kept noticing around us: there are far more people willing to help an animal than there are people equipped to. Not everyone happens to own a car, a spare crate, a bag of food or a free room — but almost everyone can do something, if they simply know what is needed and when.
Empezamos PANA PAWS por algo que veíamos constantemente a nuestro alrededor: hay muchas más personas dispuestas a ayudar a un animal que personas equipadas para hacerlo. No todos tienen un carro, un transportador de sobra, un saco de comida o un cuarto libre — pero casi cualquiera puede hacer algo, si sabe qué hace falta y cuándo.
So we built the thing that was missing — not an organization, just a way for willing people and available resources to find each other quickly. One neighbor drives, another has the crate, a third makes the phone call. Together it works. On their own, most of them would have had to walk past.
Así que construimos lo que faltaba — no una organización, sino una manera de que las personas dispuestas y los recursos disponibles se encuentren rápido. Un vecino maneja, otro tiene el transportador, un tercero hace la llamada. Juntos funciona. Por separado, la mayoría habría tenido que seguir de largo.
We have only just started, and we are honest about that. The goal is a network across Panamá Oeste that answers emergencies quickly, finds foster homes, arranges transport and gets food where it is needed — because many people together can carry far more than two people ever could.

We fund our own rescue work privately and we intend to keep it that way. It keeps things simple, it keeps us honest, and it means nobody ever has to wonder where the money went.

Animals have always been part of our life together — long before Panama, and long before any of this had a name. Moving here simply made it impossible to look away.

Every one of them reaches an animal faster than a bank transfer would.

Anything an animal needs goes straight to an animal — usually the same week. Nothing is stored, sold or converted into cash.

This is the one that helps most and costs you least. Vets, pet shops, feed stores, pharmacies, transport companies, hardware suppliers — a standing discount for PANA PAWS means every dollar we spend privately treats more animals. Tell us what you can do and we will use it carefully.

The most valuable thing anyone gives us is space in their home. Two weeks of fostering frees us to take in the next emergency. And a permanent home closes the story properly.

Shipping supplies into Panama rarely makes sense — customs, cost and delays usually eat the whole benefit. For that reason, and only for supporters abroad, we accept USDC:
